From Clearwater Bay to Tai Long Wan, the Sai Kung Peninsula is Hong Kong’s back garden – a place where people go to swim, hike, eat seafood alfresco, and otherwise escape the city. But besides the popular beaches and waterfront restaurants, there is an abundance of hidden attractions, and artist Lorette Roberts has discovered them for this book.
Such is the blurb for our new title Sketches of Sai Kung. It wasn’t easy for Lorette to decide which area to cover for the third book in her Sketches series: feedback from fans of her previous books on Soho and Stanley had suggested she turn her attention to the outlying islands, the Peak and even Wanchai. But pleas for Sai Kung outnumbered all the rest and so she spent much of 2007 travelling to every corner of this beautiful part of Hong Kong. It seems as though her efforts were well appreciated: we sold out of books at the launch party in Sai Kung Town in just 40 minutes!
The book is a 72-page hardback in full colour, with several gatefolds which open out to reveal images of temples, harbours and other local scenes. You can view sample pages from it by clicking the link above. And if you have any opinions on which area Lorette should cover next, let us know!
